6 Accessories That Can Make You A Better Gamer

MakeUseOf has a great article on gaming accessories:

"Most games are a test of skill. You either face the game itself, or other players, and in either case your ability to interact with and manipulate the game ultimately determines success or failure. Or that’s the idea, at least.

Reality is a bit different. While skill is indeed the most important factor, it’s not the only one. The equipment a gamer has can make him more or less effective, and that might in turn make the difference between victory and defeat. Not all devices are equally advantageous, however; here are some of the most useful."

The Last of Us images and review

I always used to be exclusively a pc gamer and thought there is nothing better.
It certainly has its perks, one being able to easily share files with friends at a lan party, but there are short comings like will it run smoothly on my pc?
So I felt at the rate that pc's and technology is expanding and getting beter and better, it's hard to keep up with upgrades every couple of months with new hardware coming out.
However nowadays that's also a little bit easier as tech has slowed down a bit.

I sold my pc and bought an Xbox360 and I love it.. my troubles of wondering if my graphics card is compatible or do I have enough RAM were over!  Things were looking great for me, however they were going too great. The one thing I simply just passionately dislike reared it's ugly head and it's called exclusives.
The Last of Us is one of those exclusives which I have been denied the pleasure of playing, just because I don't have the right console.
The game manages to build a relationship between the players and characters that feels real. While traversing urban areas there is a real sence of danger around every corner, when ever there is an open setting there is a a feeling of beauty all around.
All of these elements to name a few are what makes this game make me want to go out and buy a PS3, JUST so that I can also experience this.

Dead or alive 5 mouse pads and bathroom posters

we all know the Dead or Alive series and that which is associated with it, the development team tried to scale back certain elements of the game and fans damn near started a riot!

I'm talking about boobs, beautifully animated big breasted girls doing martial arts in very little. In an effort to appease the masses of DOA fan, Japan will be receiving a special collectors edition of the game.

This collectors edition will include numerous items that include a 3D mose pad that will provide a rest for you to rest your wrist on, also a bathroom poster.

Now, if you find yourself asking "what the hell is a bathroom poster?" Let me explain,  its a regular poster with a layer of protective plasic over to protect it from any kind of water damage. What
you will do with a sexy poster inside your bathroom is totally up to you. There is still some to be said of the rest of the collector's edition content and pricing, so go read the full story at dualshockers.com

First! - an introduction and a project that's totally worth it

This is my first blog post here, I am Johnathan's brother and will be adding to the lighter side of things.

Today I found a cool blog post over at Make Use Of (one of my favourite sites), showing you how to make Cubeecraft Paper toys.

They would look awesome on a desk, next to your monitor and collection of Optimus Prime action figures.

You can expect more light hearted posts from me. Say something in the comments, what would you like to see more of and what do you think about today's post?

No DRM for the Xbox One

XBox One Header

Xbox fans go wild!

In probably the best Xbox One related news comes this glorious piece of information the Xbox will do away with it's DRM policy!
Good move Microsoft, I just knew that you had it in you to realize that was a super bad idea.
I for one am even more pumped up for the release of Xbox One more than ever.

Microsoft's president of Interactive entertainment said "an internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games, after a one time set up you can play any disc based game, there is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want.
Play your games just like on Xbox 360"

There will be no limitations to trading and sharing games, if there would be any DRM limitations that would be left to the publisher but will no longer be required by the Xbox One.
og:image:, Xbox One, Microsoft, Hardware

In related news, Xbox One will Drop to $399 with the inclusion of a console with kinect 2.0 and one without.
Let's face it, it's not always possible to drop $500 Dollars ( almost R 5000 ) with the Dollar going approx  R 9.80 for a Dollar, that's really good news to have a choice which one you want based on the kind of budget that you have.

Release day is coming ever closer and I am saving all the money that I can because I want one, now without Drm and a choice in console along with multiple Xbox Live downloads the Xbox One is getting a little harder to resist.

What are your thoughts on all these changes and are you more inclined to get a Xbox One or PS4?

Samsung announces 16 Megapixel S4 Zoom

At first the the S4 Zoom was nothing but a rumor, at the Sony press conference these romors have forever been layd to rest with the announcement of the 16 Megapixel S4 Zoom.

Where has Rainbow 6 Patriots gone?

Surprisingly at this year's E3 event there has been no appearance made by Ubisoft montreal's Rainbox 6 Patriots.
When asked about the absence of the upcoming title, Ubisoft commented saying "the game has a place in the studio" but any other details were not given.

Since the game has been pulled from GameStop
Database any further release info is still to be seen and surely much anticipated.

Rainbow 6 Patriots is the 10'th game in the series, developed by Ubisoft Montreal with assistance
from Ubisoft Toronto and Redstorm.
The game follows team rainbow as they are called to New York City to combat a homegrown terrorist group calling themselves true patriots.
The true patriots have to be stopped even if that means making some harsh moral choices.

When do you think Rainbow 6 Patriots will be released?

The walking dead coming to PS VITA

Telltale games is preparing a new installation of the hit game of the walking dead tv series, titled The walking dead 400 days.

The PS VITA is the only console that was mentioned to get the game but let's hope that it will make it's way over to other platforms as well in the near future.

400 days unfolds as a whole new chapter in this episodic series, the game centers around a new group of 5 survivors along the Georgia highway close to where the first outbreaks began.

In true spirit of the walking dead series any action you make will definitely influence how the game plays out in future episodes.
With the limited amount of decision making time it is no easy task to make the right choice, hopefully the choices you will not come to haunt you later on on the game.

Sony has also revealed that there will be a The walking dead bundle coming this August including, all the episodes of season one, 400 days and further titles.

The walking dead is season 2 is scheduled to be released this autumn.

What do you thing of a new The walking dead chapter and the chance that it may only be on PS VITA? Let me know in the comments.

The rumours have become truth

A while back there have been many rumours and speculation about the potential release of an restyled Xbox 360 console formerly named stingray.

From today the beautifully restyled Xbox 360 has started shipping to retailers, a 4 gb console will cost you as low as $199.00 (around R2025.00)
while a 250 gb model will come in at $299.00 (around R3035.00), also the same price for a kinect included model.
Good news for all current console users who have  your gold account membership still running to the end of the year, Xbox live has 2 free games for download per month starting starting from 1 June.
For E3 fable 3 has been made available for free download.

The redesigned console does not only fetch a nice price it has also has a new sleek design, being slimmer and more silent with a chrome design to give it a modern look.
The console looks great however there ia one downside to the black gloss, which is that it has become a fingerprint magnet.
If that will be a problem for the average console owner will still remain to be seen, but you may want to invest in a cleaning cloth if you will be transporting the console frequently.

Along with the new design comes the removal of all exterior buttons such as power and the eject button, these have both been replaced with touch technology where you slide your finger to power on or off and eject the tray.
Touch technology is not something that is very new as it has been used on the PS3, its still pretty damn cool to have.

It is still fitted with standard wired connection for online play if you are old school like that, or if you prefer Wi-Fi the console comes with internal 802.11n Wi-Fi taking away the removable dongle.

Just as the removal of exterior buttons and Wi-Fi dongle, memory units have bocome a thing of the past with the use of USB storage taking up to 16gb per flashdrive in any of the consoles 5 USB ports.

Will you be purchasing one of the restyled 360 consoles or will you be getting the Xbox one, when it releases this November at a price tag of $499.00 (around R5079.00)

Project spark revealed for Xbox one

With Today's Microsoft press conference at E3 a new game was revealed, named Project Spark for Xbox one and windows 8.

It's a fantasy action title like no other, everything from enviroment to enemy can be created by the player  using voice control with kinect and touch through smartglass.
Project spark encourages player creativity to design their own games with virtual endless possiblity.

As players in the world are fighting goblins another player can jump in, in realtime and change the landscape or even create new enemies, creating new hazards or possibly creating something helpful.

This game might be the Xbox one's 3D equivalent to Sony's littlebig panet, with an emphasis on sharing as enviroments can be shared,  downloaded and later remixed.

There is no confirmed release date yet but i will definitely be keeping an eye on this one.

Mini review: Metro last light

You are in the year 2034, the setting.. Post apocalyptic Russia.
Deep underground is the bustling metro station that so many of survivors now call home, taking refuge from the horrors of the outside world.
Besieged by threats even from within the metro system as various factions are locked in a struggle for great power, a doomsday device and a brewing civil war that could end it all.

Jumping into the game you take control of Artyom, hero of metro 2033 and finding himself constantly in the middle of waring factions as you embark on another adventure.

Long since have I played a game that has a rather linear enviroment but can be so engaging and rich, depicting a good insight into what it might be like living in such a setting.
Even though exploration is not as well done as games like the GTA series or Elder scrolls the more you read, listen and experience the different stations throughout the metro system it adds much life into experiencing that environment.

I have constantly found myself in a situation feeling some genuine emotions of nearvousness or panic, seeing a team member coming close to death followed by frantic button mashing as if I, myself could assist my team mate put on his gas mask in his time of need.

However good the gameplay may be, I wish that the npc a.i could have been a bit more aware of happenings as it is not any real challenge to escape or defeat your enemy.
Players who decide to take a more stealthy approach will be rewarded with the eas of taking down enemies, with a number of stealth oriented weapons and the ability to unscrew light bulbs and put out lamps.
If players are looking for a more action packed experience, going in guns blazing is also a perfectly viable option.

Another gripe that I have found with this game is that the difficulty setting of the game feels a bit unbalanced.
When playing on the hard setting it just does not feel that hard, enemies are not more alert and ammunition is abundantly available.

With the good and the bad weighed up, metro last light stays a highly enjoyable game.
I do believe that the linearity of the setting is balanced out with so much other detail, true moments of not knowing what's around the next bend.
With all it has to offer, the tiny flaws can easily be overlooked.
Definitely a game that deserves a play through.

Metro last light ratings by:
IGN: 4.7
Gamespot: 90/100
Giant bomb:4 of 5 stars
Double jump: 4 High fives

Free app of the day

Nosferatu: Run from the sun
Being a vampire can have it's certain perks, things like never physically aging, immortality, "vampire powers" but it certainly can't be easy. Of course I'm referring to being viewed as a monster and being hunted by angry villagers, also there's the whole sunlight will turn you to ash thing.

Luckily in Smuttlewerks latest game there is none of that! Except the sun... It's out for blood.
You start the game as a vampire-like creature running over rooftops, collecting coins, upgrades and turning humans into other vampire friends, all while avoiding varying gaps that will ultimately lead to your doom.

The game follows the same basic concept like that of Canabalt or Jetpack Joyride. As you progress, the pace will slowly start to pick up and everything will become a little more challenging than before, to not fall off the rooftops. The controls are very basic you tap once to jump, hold to jump high and tap while in mid air to double jump.

The games visuals are in a very cartoony style which adds to the cuteness of it all, however the sounds of the game draws back from the entire experience. Every time you jump it sounds like the neighbors annoying chihuahua barking at you, which makes it one game to definitely play with the sound off.
Throughout the levels you will find bonus upgrades that will temporarily help you, but which are also available to purchase with the coins you collect.

As many other games there are missions and statistics to keep things interesting, adding a certain level of challenge to the experience. A multitude of outfits and upgrades are available for your character to purchase if you have collected enough coins, which may not appeal to everybody as an outfit can cost anything between 500 and 350 000 coins.

The game has certain Facebook integration to receive free coins to spend by liking it on Facebook.
Overall, Nosferatu: run from the sun is a fun game to play while you have some time to spare, either waiting inline in the doctor's office or waiting at the airport.

Google play store gives nosferatu a 4.6

Combo crew

Climb the tower and beat the boss as one of many fighters in the action packed arcade styled fighter from the gamebakers.

The game consists of 7 levels of 5 rounds each as you battle your way past various kinds of enemies, the controls are very simple as you swipe your finger to hit and hold your finger on the screen to charge your attack, double swipes to use combos.
As you progress you collect coins which you can use to buy upgrades whether it be one time use or permanent upgrade.
The game also has an alternative game mode called combo crew mode where you can choose to play solo or invite friends that will recieve your game and are able to join in the fun, this mode can be compared to survival mode of tekken, there is a constant stream of enemies to challenge until your energy bar is fully depleated where after you can accept your fate or ask one of your friends for a revive.

With much continuous play the game might feel a bit repetitive but overall still a very good time as you battle your way up to fight the boss.

The game is available on the android marketplace for a low price of €1.79

JETPACK JOYRIDE

Get your jetpack we're going on a joyride!

In another release from Halfbrick studios comes the epic adventure of Barry Steakfries as you break into a science lab to steal a jetpack from evil  doeer scientists.
The gameplay is beautifully simple in this side scroller all that is needed is to hold your finger on the screen to fly and release to land, the ultimate goal is progression and striving to beat your previous high score.
This can be achieved by dodging the multitude of zappers and incoming rockets while collecting as many coins as you can, frequently with the help of vehicles scattered throughout the level.

All those hard earned coins aren't for nothing, the game boasts a farily impressive store called my stach which includes new jetpacks, vehicle upgrades, gadgets and much more.
Although the leveling is a little short lived there is a huge amount of time to be spent on this game without getting bored.
There are plenty of missions and achievements to fulfill even leaderboards to keep up with your friends for title of ultimate jetpack joyrider.

Winner of numerous award including - pocket gamer best action arcade game 2012.

Available for free download on android market place and iPhone.
